A bit of history

The Hôtel de la Vallée de l’Arc, a former 18th century coaching inn, initially called the “hostellerie du Grand Logis”, took the name “Hôtel de France” with Honoré Dubois in 1862, who bought it from the Marquis Forbin d’Oppède. The Dubois family produced several famous people over three generations: his father, Jean-Antoine Dubois, was Napoleon Bonaparte’s cook, his cousin, Urbain, was introduced to cooking at the “Hôtel de France” before climbing the ranks of the profession. Urbain’s son, Felix, was a journalist, explorer and writer. As for Honoré Dubois, beyond his expertise as a cook, he was an artist, Trets owes him many drawings. This building also served as a refuge for populations in distress during the two world wars.
